Shade Cabin

shadecabin_field

Shade Cabin is a proposal to rethink the traditional log cabin as a new type of open air structure. Using dimensional lumber (2x4s) instead of logs, we propose transforming the log cabin from an enclosed structure with basic atmospheric qualities into an open air structure with sophisticated atmospheric qualities accessible to all for different possible functions. Taking into account that the structural integrity of a log cabin defines its visual identity, this design maintains this traditional building system but spaces the wooden members in order to redefine this architectural convention while proposing a new type of open and functionally undefined space.
